Free, Libre, and Open Source Software (FLOSS) for Research
Many software tools for conducting research are available as FLOSS (Free, Libre and Open Source Software). Using them is usually free of charge. FLOSS is not limited to computer applications and also includes software platforms such as the Linux kernel and the Apache web server.
Reference management:

Conducting studies:
- PsychoPy (cross-platform package for experiments in the behavioral sciences)
- PsyToolkit (toolkit for cognitive-psychological experiments and surveys)

Data analysis:

- Python (full-fledged programming language with many data analysis packages)
